Ahhhh! The brisk air, the pumpkin-flavored-everything, the changing leaves… It’s finally fall! Although your typical pumpkin carving, corn maze, apple cider filled celebrations might look a little different this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the season with your honey. Pick a few of these activity options for this fall-themed date night!

Activity Options:

DIY Halloween Costume:

  • Set a timer for 25 minutes.
  • Each person has until the timer goes off to make a Halloween costume for their partner!
  • Use anything and everything from around the house – the more creative the better!
  • BONUS POINTS if you wear this costume as you’re doing any of the other activities below!

ILY, PSL:

  • Grab that “pumpkin spice” shaker from your spice cabinet and let’s get creative. Nothing screams fall and date night like some pumpkin spice!
  • Try to make your favorite dish into a Pumpkin Spice masterpiece! From cinnamon rolls to pizza, anything can be turned into a fall dish with a little pumpkin spice!

Jack O’ Painting:

  • Sure, everyone loves a great carved pumpkin, but not everyone is talented with a keyhole saw!
  • All you need is a couple of pumpkins, some acrylic paint and a good brush, and you’re all set!
  • Bonus points if you and your partner make themed pumpkins! (A bride & groom, a witch & wizard, Cookie Monster & a jar of cookies, etc.)

Leaf Hunting:

  • Grab those boots & a scarf and take a walk in your nearest park!
  • Add in a little competition to see who can find the most heart-shaped leaves on the ground!

Scary Movie Marathon:

  • Find a scary movie you both haven’t seen before, grab some popcorn (or that pumpkin spice dish from the previous activity) and snuggle up on the couch together!
  • Want to make it a little more interesting? Turn off the volume and narrate the scenes yourself! Try and guess the story line, the emotions the characters are feeling, etc.

Questions to Ask While on The Fall Date Night:

  • When was the first time you knew you loved me?
  • What’s one thing about me that first made you fall in love with me?
  • What’s one thing about me that keeps you continuously falling in love with me?
  • How can we keep the fire burning in our relationship through the winter months to come?
  • What was your favorite part of summer?
  • What are you most looking forward to during fall?
  • Give me one way I can help you thrive in the next two weeks.
  • What in your life are you most thankful for right now?
  • Alternate 5 times sharing something you consider a positive characteristic of your partner.
  • On a scale of 1-10, how warm and inviting would you say I am? What would you rate us as a couple? What can I do to raise that number?

Right now, days seem to run together, time has seemed to stand still, and the past 6 months have felt like an eternity and a split second all at once. Life before COVID-19 is becoming more and more of a distant memory… Were we ever actually allowed to go to the movie theater? Or the bowling alley? Or out on the town? This date night is all about bringing back those good-old classic date nights, only this time while in quarantine! Below are a bunch of typical first dates. Pick one (or more!) to do together, COVID-19 style! Be sure to take along the list of questions to ask each other during the date night, too!

QUESTIONS TO ASK ON YOUR DATE NIGHT:

  1. What has been the hardest part of quarantine/COVID-19/the past 6+ months?
  2. What has been one good thing to happen recently?
  3. Do you think we’ve gotten closer or further apart over the past few months?
  4. What do you miss the most about the date nights we used to go on?
  5. If you could have one thing back that you haven’t been able to do since COVID-19, what would it be? Why?
  6. What’s one thing the two of us can do to help us/our family adjust better to our situation right now?
  7. What did you not miss while in quarantine?
  8. What’s one thing I can do to help you feel more stable/secure in the next week?
  9. How would you describe this time to our future kids/grandkids?
  10. What has been the weirdest part of quarantine/COVID-19/the past 6+ months?

You go to your partner’s closet/dresser/wherever clothes are kept, and your partner will go to yours. Your goal is to find the oldest/funniest/craziest outfit possible for your partner to wear for the rest of this date night! Go all-out with watches, purses, socks, jewelry, etc.

Once you have an outfit picked out, you and your partner have to wear them for the rest of the date night! Pick another activity on this list to keep the fun going.

ENJOY A CONCERT:

So live concerts are off the table for date nights this year… But what if you enjoyed them from home instead? Since March, a lot of popular artists have put up or created live shows for their fans to enjoy from the safety of their own home! Coming up with a great date night idea can be as easy as a flip of a coin! And sometimes, date night can be even better without a plan! All you need is a penny (or any coin) and your car. Check out the instructions below to see if you’re up for this unique, fun date night!

Instructions:

  1. Get dressed in something comfortable.
  2. Pack some snacks, a picnic, or dessert in the car to munch on while you’re driving and/or after you’ve arrived. (This step is optional!)
  3. Grab a coin and get in the car. (OR you can obviously walk if that’s more convenient for you!)
  4. Let your partner choose a number between 10 and 20. This will be the number of times you flip the coin.
  5. Before you turn out of the driveway, BEGIN by flipping the coin! If it lands on heads, turn RIGHT. If it’s on tails, turn LEFT!
  6. Every time you come to an intersection, flip the coin, and turn the corresponding direction.
  7. Once you get to the number your partner chose from Step 2, look around and start your date!

Take It A Little Deeper:

Once you’ve arrived at your destination, take some time to ask and answer these questions! (Each spouse should have a turn to answer.)

  • Did the lack of planning scare you? Or stress you out? Why or why not?
  • Is this a date that you’d want to do again? Why or why not?
  • Do you have any fears or anticipations about what life may bring our way? If so, what are they?
  • Is there anything I can do or say to help to ease those fears and provide some comfort for you?
  • When you think about our future together, what excites you the most?

A ping pong ball. Some plastic cups. Is this date night really what you think it is? Nope, it’s better! Give it a shot and get ready to learn new things about your spouse with this at-home, DIY date night!

Instructions:

1. Clear off your kitchen table or coffee table.

2. Set up 10 of the cups on one end in a triangle (like bowling pins) pointing toward the center of the table.

3. Mirror the same setup on the other end of the table.

4. Fill the cups halfway with water (or a liquid of your choice – no judgment here!)

5. Stand on one end of the table with your spouse at the other.

6. Take turns trying to bounce the ball into the set of cups in front of your spouse.

7. Whenever a ball makes it into a cup, the spouse who threw the ball gets to choose a “favor” for their spouse to do. (See list below!)

8. The spouse then does the favor, and removes the cup the ball landed in from his/her set of cups.

9. Continue playing until one set of cups is completely gone!

SEXY FAVORS:

  • Take off (choose an article of clothing)
  • Rub my feet/back/head, etc.
  • Whisper something sweet in my ear
  • Tell me what you most enjoy in the bedroom
  • Kiss me for more than 20 seconds

SILLY FAVORS:

  • Sing my favorite song with hand motions
  • Do your best impression of ______________
  • Say your ABCs backwards
  • Try to put your foot behind your head
  • Act out what animal fits your personality best

SAVORY THOUGHTS:

  • What do you enjoy most about our time together?
  • How will our life be different/similar in 5 years?
  • What will we do to keep from being bored?
  • What is something you’ve always wanted to do?
  • Who would play you & me in a movie about our life?
