emotional intimacy matters. make it strong in your marriage!
When your relationship has a high level of emotional intimacy, you share your feelings, needs, fears, successes, and failures knowing you will continue to be loved and cared for by your partner.
Building strong intimacy in your relationship can give your marriage the satisfying fulfillment you desire.
Here are 6 exercises to start strengthening your emotional intimacy:
💛 Do something new and engaging together.
💛 Show affection.
💛 Do marriage enrichment together.
💛 Make time to talk.
💛 Celebrate your togetherness.
💛 Make the most of pillow talk.
Each of these exercises on their own may not strengthen your emotional intimacy. However, if you do these with a heart of gratitude and appreciation toward your partner and you make them a habit, you’ll begin to feel closer and more connected. You’ll find yourself sharing more of yourself and getting to know your spouse more fully.
dealing with manipulation in your marriage? you’re not alone!
You want a marriage where you both work together and are free to be yourselves. However, if your freedom to think and make decisions that reflect your ideas and desires is a little, well, stifled, you may be feeling manipulated. Nobody wants to feel that way. If that’s the case, you’re probably wondering how to deal with manipulation in your marriage.
Let me tell you: it may be challenging, and it may take some time, but you’ve got to deal with it. Especially if you want your relationship to thrive. It affects your mental health, self-esteem, and confidence.
When you feel manipulated, you may feel:
- Guilt, though you’ve done nothing wrong.
- Gaslighted or made to feel like you’re crazy.
- Isolated if your fiancé punishes you with the silent treatment.
- Powerless, because your choice seems to be taken away.
- Inferior, if your thoughts, opinions, and wants are dismissed or ignored in favor of the manipulator’s.
- Blamed, as though any negative results are your fault.
So, how can you respond? Well, you’re in a tough spot, for sure. Here are some things that might help.
what we’re lovin’
This week’s picks come from Anna Reeves McCutcheon, former FTF Intern, and now the Social Media Manager here at First Things First! Take a peek at her recommendations for this week because they are just THAT GOOD. Check ’em out 👀:
📗 Educated By Tara Westover– A fascinating memoir, that I recently finished, about a woman who makes her way from an abusive childhood in a junkyard to discovering who she is at Cambridge University.
🌲 All Trails– A great source for finding beautiful hiking spots in whatever city you’re in.
😋 Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels– My go-to sweet treat! (I think I could eat the whole bag if I put my mind to it.)
