tips & tricks for growth
when you disagree with the ones you love it can be tough…
Itās nothing new to disagree with the ones you love, whether itās about current events, religion, guns, racism, politics, football or something else. In fact, chances are pretty good that you completely disagree on certain topics with someone you care deeply about. The disagreements may be so intense you wonder how you can actually co-exist.
The level of intensity might feel more so at this moment in time in our culture. In fact, many people can hardly believe that the people they love have such different perspectives from their own. The ongoing stress from trying to navigate these issues can take a massive toll on our relationships.
FOR REAL.
So, what do you do when you strongly disagree with the ones you love?
feeling compassion fatigue? you’re not alone!
Have you ever felt like youāve cared so much you just canāt anymore? Like youāre exhausted from taking care of others? Even if youāve never heard of compassion fatigue, you may be familiar with what it is. Maybe more familiar than youād like.
Compassion fatigue is rooted in caring for others.
It would be easy to confuse compassion fatigue with burnout, but theyāre a bit different.
Compassion fatigue occurs because of the emotional strain of supporting those who are suffering from something traumatic. It is rooted in caring for others. Itās not just a workplace thing, but it can co-exist with burnout, especially for those in service professions.
Look for these symptoms:
- Physical and psychological exhaustion
- Feeling helpless, hopeless, or powerless
- A decreased sense of personal and professional accomplishment
- A change in your worldview or spirituality
- Drastic shifts in mood
- A dramatic withdrawal from social connections
Since compassion fatigue affects your mental and physical health, it also impacts the quality of your relationships with your partner, children, friends, and co-workers.

This week’s picks come from Margo Mathis, wife to her husband of 2 years, Jebediah, girl mama, dog momma, and the Marketing Assistant here at First Things First.Ā Take a peek at her recommendations for this week because they are just THAT GOOD. Check ’em out š:
š Audible App– Ok ok, I know itās not the same as holding a physical book- which I do love! However, my new #workingmomlife doesnāt really allow me much time to sit and read. With Audible, I can listen to books while feeding, doing house chores or taking a walk. Now thatās the kinda multitasking I like!
š Google Home Mini– I know these arenāt the latest & greatest anymore, buuut I use mine daily!Ā To set timers when Iām cooking, reminders to switch the laundry, play music throughout the house, check the weather, etc. Itās a kitchen must-have for me!
š¤ @Goodnews_movement on Instagram–Ā This account is a favorite of mine! No politics, just GOOD positive news! Itās sure to make you smile & maybe cry a tear or two. Give it a follow!
