avoid that dreaded holiday stress
While we can mostly agree that the holidays are some of the most wonderful times of the year, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to make each one the “best” holiday ever.
A lot of holiday stress comes from that expectation. Although we all want to avoid holiday stress, it usually shows up in different ways. It may look like wanting to purchase the perfect gifts, decorating your home immaculately, or preparing the food that everyone loves.
Let’s face it, stress happens! But there are some ways you can try to avoid it. These things can help you navigate the season with more peace:
- Create and utilize healthy boundaries
- Examine your priorities
- Focus on presence, not perfection
- Choose to see the positive
keep the holidays from straining your relationships
As wonderful as the holiday season is, this time of year is particularly hard on relationships. Nobody likes to talk about it, but statistics show that more breakups, divorces, and infidelities happen around the holiday season than any other time of year. Happy holidays? Not for everyone…
Why are the holidays such a strain on relationships? You already know this – the holidays are a particularly busy and stressful time because we are…
🚘 Constantly on the go and rushing around to shop, attend holiday parties and performances, and get our house decorated and cleaned.
🤯 Often forced to be around difficult people and put in stressful situations.
❣️ Trying to navigate the expectations that other people put on us during this season.
😴 Tired and drained- physically, emotionally and financially.
Worst of all, while all of this is happening, we aren’t getting any quality time with our partner because our hectic schedule has us occupied and pulls us in different directions.
Beware! This is definitely a unique time of year when your relationship is vulnerable.
let’s get REALatable
It’s time to take things a step further & get a little intimate with a Q&A. What do you say?😉 Learn a little bit about the faces behind all of this relationship gold. This week we’re chatting with John Daum, husband to his wife Monica, dad of 5, story enthusiast, and the content creator here at First Things First! Let’s get REALatable💛 & learn a little bit about him:
Q: Movie or TV show?
A: Either. I just like good stories wherever I can find them— movies, tv shows, books, interviews on YouTube, and especially deep conversations with people. I tend to gravitate toward true stories and documentaries.
Q: One thing you want to learn?
A: I kinda want to learn anything and everything. (That’s been a bit of a problem!) If I had to pick ONE thing, as nerdy as it sounds, I love learning about words and languages.
Q: Who’s been your biggest role model, and why?
A: Gotta go with my father. Even though he passed away a number of years ago, his example and what he taught me will always stay with me.
