You may have porn on your mind, but here’s what you need to know about…
Your brain produces the best drugs on the street.
When you watch porn, your brain releases dopamine and oxytocin. Dopamine is a “feel good” chemical and oxytocin is an “attachment” chemical. (Mothers are flooded with it when they give birth. This chemical is also released when you have real sex.)
When your brain is flooded with dopamine, it builds a tolerance for it.
This is why watching porn is an escalating and addictive behavior. You need more porn and more explicit porn to get the same dopamine bump. (And let’s not forget that oxytocin that is building a bond between you and pornography.)
While all that is happening, your view of women (or men) and your view of sex is being twisted and distorted.
For instance, you’re gonna be looking at real people in your life and just seeing them as sex objects as you wonder what’s under all those clothes and what they are like in bed. Not the kinda thoughts that lead to healthy relationships.
Pornography affects real-life relationships.
Using pornography is connected with less satisfaction in relationships, fewer close relationships, more loneliness, and more depression.
Don’t settle for fake sex.
Don’t end up in a place where you feel like real sex in a relationship doesn’t compare to porn. You can get help. You can connect (or find) the person you care about most.
