tips & tricks for growth
create solid trust in your relationship
What’s the difference between a loving, warm marriage and one full of friction and conflict? Trust. There are probably many items on your checklist for having a strong marriage. If there’s one that ought to be at the top of the list, it’s trust!🛡
Establishing a solid foundation of trust in marriage can provide the groundwork to building trust that’s as strong as a 100-year-old oak tree with deep roots. Some foundations aren’t solid. It’s good to know early that a person can’t be trusted. It’s not wise to trust someone to be honest if they continue to build a record of dishonesty. Trust will grow if you’re consistent in your words and actions.
Opportunities will come that will strengthen your trust or give the two of you something to work through.
find forgiveness for yourself
Forgiveness is often defined as letting go of feelings of resentment, anger, or bitterness toward someone who has wronged you. Forgiving others can be tough. But we all can forgive. While you may be able to forgive others, how are you at forgiving yourself for mistakes you’ve made or wrongs you’ve committed?
Forgiving yourself requires empathy, compassion, kindness, and understanding.💛 We all make mistakes. However, there is power in acknowledging, learning from, and moving beyond our mistakes.
Why should I forgive myself?
Forgiving yourself is a big deal for your own personal growth. When you forgive yourself, you improve your self-image. Studies have shown that those who practice self-forgiveness experience lower levels of depression and anxiety, too.
Forgiving also impacts your physical health. Research shows that forgiveness can reduce blood pressure and improve heart health. So, how can you find forgiveness for yourself? Is it possible?
let’s get REALatable
It’s time to take things a step further & get a little intimate with a Q&A. What do you say?😉 Learn a little bit about the faces behind all of this relationship gold. This week we’re chatting with Caroline Henry, wife to her husband of 3.5yrs, toddler girl mama(Whew. Someone buy her a coffee!), organizational wizard, and the Content Strategist here at First Things First! Let’s get REALatable💛 & learn a little bit about her:
Q: What time do you go to bed?
A: 💤 What time do I actually go to bed? Or what time do I wish I went to bed? As a working mom, I usually wish I was in bed at, like, 8:30. But realistically it’s usually between 10-11.
Q: Farthest you’ve ever been from home?
A: 🌏 Naples, Italy. It was 10 days with my sister and a group of high school students, and it was an amazing experience!
Q: Favorite season?
A: ❄️🍂 Before becoming a mom, winter by far. I love bundling up for the cold weather, and hot drinks are the best! But now with a toddler, probably autumn. It’s so fun to get outside and explore with her, especially when it’s not blazing hot or raining all week long!
