To boost your communication up another notch, ask your spouse this Magic Question to help you understand exactly what your spouse wants from you!
get along with the in-laws beyond the holidays
After a few years of marriage (or less), you soon realize saying “yes” to forever with your spouse really did mean saying “yes” to forever with their family, as well as uncomfortable holidays and long weekends filled with awkward situations and tension for as long as you both shall live.
You want to like your in-laws. You’ve tried to like them. But you don’t.
The truth is, you may never like your in-laws. And that’s totally fine. You don’t have to. It’s just important to keep the drama and the tension to a minimum as much as you can for the sake of your spouse and your children (If you have them). Even though you formed a new family when you were married, your in-laws are the reason you have your spouse and a new family to begin with.
If nothing else, try to respect them for giving you your spouse.
For those in the opposite boat and it’s your in-laws who don’t like you, this one’s for you.
let’s get REALatable
It’s time to take things a step further & get a little intimate with a Q&A. What do you say?😉 Learn a little bit about the faces behind all of this relationship gold. This week we’re chatting with Tamara Slocum, who celebrated 10 years of marriage to Bobby, Mama to 3 girlies… (Her hands & heart stay full!), avid bookworm, and the Creative Strategist here at First Things First! Let’s get REALatable💛 & learn a little bit about her:
Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve?
A: 🙃 Doors, cabinets, drawers being left partially open!
Q: What has been your favorite age so far?
A: ✨Definitely 30. As soon as I turned 30, I felt a tangible shift in my mindset… more comfortable and confident in myself. I started digging deeper than ever before—doing the work to understand my childhood wounds, attachment style, core fears and vulnerabilities, why I am the way I am, and how to heal and grow from it.
Q: What is your ideal free day?
A: 🤗 I’d start with a morning yoga class, grab a coffee or tea and read a few chapters of a good book. Get a professional massage, work on writing my own novel and pretend like I don’t have 3 kids who need me constantly!
